About this newsletter

It’s No Ibiza is an irregular newsletter devoted to Israeli popular culture, based on our whims. It will consist of everything from celebrity gossip to serious (brief) reviews of TV, music, film, and more. No medium is too lowbrow, no reality show too tawdry, no Instagram account too wacky for us. We’ll report on what we see, hear, and read and keep you apprised of exciting things happening in the world of Israeli pop culture.

The title

“It’s No Ibiza” is taken from the song “Silsulim” by Static and Ben El, who tragically split ways in 2022. It refers somewhat jokingly to Israel’s relative marginality in terms of world culture while extolling Israel’s virtues, a thin line that we hope to walk in this newsletter. It’s also a bop, and we expect this space to be fun.

Rules of our game

Nothing written about Israel can ever not be political, and we recognize that there is a broader political, social, and cultural context to everything posted here. We hope to consider that broader context in a nuanced, thoughtful, and respectful way and we expect everyone else to do the same.
